Driver killed when 57 Chevy hits tree

GRANTS PASS, Ore. - A Rogue River man died when the 1957 Chevy pickup he was driving went off the road and hit a large tree Wednesday.

Jeremy L. Pippin, 35, died at the scene. His passenger Max K. McClaron, 22, of Grants Pass was taken by ambulance to the hospital with unspecified injuries, police said.

Now investigators are trying to piece together what caused the crash.

Pippin's pickup was southbound on Redwood Avenue around 4:15 p.m. when it swerved off the road and hit a large tree, trapping him inside. Firefighters pulled him from the wreckage, but he died at the scene.
