Driver seriously injured when truck crashes into ravine
SILVERTON, Ore. - A pickup crashed airborne into a ravine, hitting a high voltage power power and a tree before coming to rest in a crumpled mess next to a creek, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.
Firefighters worked for 2 hours to pull the driver from the wreckage. Once freed by rescue workers, Mark A. McKellar, 51, of Salem was taken by air ambulance to Salem Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators said excessive speed for the conditions was a contributing factor in this crash. It was still dark at the time of the crash with fog and mist dampening the roadway.
Witnesses reported that McKellar was northbound in a 2002 Chevy Avalanche on Cascade Highway NE at 55 mph when he suddenly stopped in the roadway, causing others drivers to stop.
McKellar then rapidly accelerated. As the truck crested a rise in the road, he missed a right hand turn in the road. The truck hit the power line and then the tree before falling to the ground. Investigators believe the truck hit the tree 8 feet above the ground.

This is what 99% of the driving public do out there on our nations highways and city streets! Almost everyone of you are in a hurry to either kill yourself or someone else so that you can get to where you are going 30 seconds faster!
Â
I get harassed driving the speed limit (or a little slower) because every single driver has to come right up on my bumper as to intimidate me (which only makes me go slower) into either moving over or driving faster! You people aren't smart enough to know when you are catching up to someone, and instead of going around them you drive right up on their bumper and or hit the horn or the high-beams!
Â
I hope he dies, then there will be one less moron out there looking to take me out in a 4,000 lb + vehicle!
Â
Morons!

 @PostoneÂ
Â
Wow, you aren't much better than those who kill people.Â
Â
I'd almost want to meet you to see what a human monster looks and sounds like.Â
 @Jason Marks What do you know moron?
 @Postone Hope he dies. A little extreme don't you think?
 @givupongod  @Postone Not at all... Better him than me or my family or your family, because he drives like a moron! Driving at breakneck speeds is a choice just like drinking and driving is a choice!
suicide or a jack arse
Who writes this stuff? "A pickup crashed airborne into a ravine, hitting a high voltage power power". If they had a journalism award for bad writing, then the author of this article would win top prize.
Â
Maybe he meant: " A pickup went airborne before hitting a high voltage power line?" or something to that effect.
Â
If the writer has a journalism degree maybe he should ask for his money back?
@Sparky62 ---author probably graduated from the UO, is a temp, and moonlights on other jobs, to pay off student loans OR is just an intern OR maybe KVAL jobs out some stories to India and Mexico like every other big business these days. Senior editing staff should catch the mistakes that spell check functions cannot. If any of the above is true, then why must a college degree be so expensive to begin with? The diploma parchment paper isn't even absorbant enough to double as toilet paper.
Wait, he "suddenly stopped in the roadway" then "rapidly accelerated"... WTF was he thinking?!!
@XoztedMama Suicide is my guess....Â
