Driver seriously injured in 3-vehicle crash on Hwy 20
Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate a three vehicle injury motor vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 20, near milepost 41.

PHILOMATH, Ore. -- A driver was seriously injured Friday night in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 20 about 8 miles west of Philomath, the Benton County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened Friday night while James Jones, 60, of Waldport, was towing a tractor loaded on a flatbed trailer east on Highway 20. At around 8 p.m. Jones' Chevy pickup crossed over the center line and struck a Honda CRV head-on, sheriff's officials said.

Emergency responders had to pull the Honda's driver, Janice Hancock, 52, of Newport, from the collision. She was taken to a Corvallis hospital with serious injuries.

Jones sustained a minor injury in the crash.

A third driver that was headed west behind the Honda sideswiped the Chevy pickup after the collision, officials said. The driver was unhurt in the crash.

Crews closed the roadway for about two hours while working to clear the crash scene.

Officials said they are still unsure of what caused Jones to cross over the center line. The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information to please contact Deputy Aaron Gevatosky at 541-766-6858.
