EUGENE, Ore. -- Officers cited a Eugene man with driving under the influence Monday afternoon when he crashed his SUV into an art sculpture near Kesey Square.
Police officials said that Floyd Hargiss, 74, was driving his silver Chevy Blazer north on Willamette St. toward the Broadway intersection at around 2:50 p.m. when he stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brakes.
Hargiss clipped a Toyota Prius while trying to swerve to the right. Eugene Police said he hopped a curb and ran into a pole.
The impact trapped Hargiss inside the Blazer, Eugene Police said. Emergency crews had to help the man out of the driver's side door.
Hargiss was cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.
The driver of the Prius was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
