EUGENE, Ore. -- BMX racers from around the region sped around a special dirt track constructed inside the Lane Events Center on Saturday and Sunday.
The event marked the start of the Emerald Valley BMX racing season.
Jason Germyn brought his kids out to the races. Not to watch, but to hit the track together as a family.
"Anyone can do it, from three years old all the way up to 60, men and women, girls and boys … it's a great sport to be involved with!" Germyn said.
Racers of all skill levels also rode the track during the weekend-long event. Professional BMX racer Kristian Cooper said that his love of the sport gets him on a track at least six days a week.
"It is more of a lifestyle," said Cooper. "Anyone that wants to do it (can) ... it is great for anyone, all ages!"
Cooper said that the best way to get involved is to find a local track and sign up.
Emerald Valley BMX riders compete in their season until April and hold races every Saturday and Sunday.
