EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene City Council will hold a special meeting at noon Tuesday to discuss the Occupy Eugene exemption to a ban on camping in public parks.

The City Council voted last week to give the camp until Jan. 11 to disband. The Council also committed up $300,000 to provide for police and transition services to dismantle the camp.

The Council also directed the City Manager to monitor conditions at the camp.

On Monday night, police responded to a series of fights in the camp. At 10:40 p.m., police found a 54-year-old man unconscious and not breathing after an apparent fight.

The man is in an area hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.

A city official said Mayor Kitty Piercy called for the special meeting.

The meeting begins at noon in the McNutt Room at Eugene City Hall.
