Eugene businesswoman named a 'Woman of Worth'
EUGENE, Ore. - A Eugene woman is in the national spotlight as she's being honored as a 2012 Woman of Worth.
Lorraine Kerwood, founder of NextStep Recycling, is one of 10 women being nationally recognized by L'oreal of Paris for her work at NextStep and Kindtree Autism.
As a business woman with NextStep, she has helped recycle more than 10-thousand pounds of electronic waste.
Kerwood is using this honor as an opportunity to share with the community why recycling is so important.
"It's terrifically important to me," Kerwood said, "not only because I want to protect my community from toxic material, but I have 7 grand kids and I want this place to stay as clean as possible and as healthy as possible. I am very honored to be recognized for my volunteerism and my community commitment."
As a woman with Asperger's Syndrome, she is also dedicated to helping autistic kids.
If Kerwood wins the grand prize, she will receive a $25,000 award for her charity.
