EUGENE, Ore. -- The thermometer at the Eugene Airport bottomed out at -10 degrees F early Sunday morning, making for the second coldest temperature on record for the city.
The cold snap causing the record-setting low temps is expected to stick around through the weekend as an Arctic air mass hovers over Oregon.
Officials with the National Weather Service said Eugene set another record by reaching -7 degrees, breaking the record low for Dec. 7 which had been set with -6 degrees in 1972.
The high-pressure system over Oregon and Southwest Washington broke the same Dec. 7, 1972 record in Portland (coming in at 15 degrees) and Hillsboro (12 degrees).
