Eugene worker sues Post Office
EUGENE, Ore. - A worker has sued the U.S. Postal Service, claiming retaliation after he participated in an Equal Employment Opportunity investigation filed by a co-worker in Eugene.
Jesse Soto, a supervisor maintenance worker in Eugene, seeks $300,000 in non-economic damages plus attorney fees in the lawsuit filed in federal court.
Soto has worked for the Post Office for 12 1/2 years. Since 2005, he has worked as a supervisor.
According to the lawsuit filed by the firm Lafky & Lafky of Salem, an EEO investigator contacted Soto in June 2011 about a complaint filed by a black co-worker alleging racial discrimination, hostile work environment and retaliation in the workplace.
Soto, who is Hispanic, agreed to provide information to the EEO investigator. He also informed the plant manager that the information he would provide would not be favorable to the Post Office, according to the suit.
Less than two weeks later, Soto was notified he was reassigned from the day shift to the evening shift.
Soto also alleges race-based discrimination in the workplace.
The thing that comes to mind here is, why this story? There is no information short of a black person claiming discrimination, and a hispanic claiming his shift was changed. This is a story? News must be really scarce. How about some detail, besides hostile work environment, and retaliation in the workplace. What about who, what, when, where, why, how and by whom?
