Experimental plane lands in grass after failed takeoff
The experimental aircraft's landing gear collapsed during the failed takeoff attempt.
PUYALLUP, Wash. - An experimental plane wound up in the grass after a failed takeoff Tuesday from Thun Field in Pierce County, south of Puyalllup.

Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said the pilot was not injured in the accident. There were no passengers,

He said it appears the plane's gearbox collapsed on takeoff at about 12:45 p.m.

Aerial footage from KOMO's Air 4 showed the plane's landing gear twisted and bent beneath the aircraft as it sat in the grass.

The plane was towed from the grass and normal flight operations resumed at the airport.
