Family fun: suspended 50 feet up

EUGENE, Ore. -- Kids got a chance to climb high up in the trees of Spencer Butte on Saturday in the Family Challenge Course.

Saturday the Vasconez-Taylor clan was one of many families to take on the challenge course. The mother, Kathleen Vasconez-Taylor said that they've driven past the park for years but never attempted the challenge course.

“They get bored easily and we hadn't done this before so we thought it would be fun to try." Vasconez-Taylor said.

Activity Coordinator Kirsten Kelso was the organizer for the family challenge. She's taught families rope climbing techniques while strapping them into harnesses. Those harnesses soon lifted kids high up into the trees to complete the challenge course.

Fellow participants helped out by holding the rope that suspended climbers 55 feet above the ground.

The Miller family said that the event was a great learning activity that highlighted trust and communication.

These families challenged themselves to learn, grow and explore, through a variety of activities. As Kelso said, most importantly it challenges families to have fun together.
