EUGENE, Ore. - An Oregon football fan broke his ankle when he jumped over a barrier onto the field at Autzen Stadium after the Fresno State game last weekend, highlighting a safety concern for athletic department officials.
The injury puts an Oregon tradition of allowing fans on the field after games at risk, according to Craig Pintens with the athletic department.
"If you wait five minutes, we open up all of the gates and you can come onto the field and celebrate, what's become a tradition here at Autzen," Pintens said. "It's tough to maintain that tradition if we're going to have a lot of injuries.
"We don't want to make a change," he added. "We're one of the few schools in the country that does allow fans to come out onto the field."

One fan was an idiot don't ruin it for everyone. How excited could he be it was just Fresno st.
@givupongod @givupongod ** Don't you dare call my son an idiot, kids are kids!! And for you to single this out to ONE FAN please!! Numerous FANS jump from kids to teens to grown adults!!! As my son was lying on the ground with a snapped ankle, I continued to watch fans jump!!!! And to set the record straight on this subject. As we spent 8+ hours in the Emergency Room with our son, the ER staff was attending to another ankle break due to the same situation. I'm thankful my son had an enormous support system, prayers do work :)
Talk about over-reaction...Pintens said. "It's tough to maintain that tradition if we're going to have a lot of injuries."
