Police: Two killed when flatbed trailer hits minivan
WALDPORT, Ore. -- Two women were killed on Highway 101 Sunday morning when a flatbed trailer loaded with an off-road vehicle went into oncoming traffic and hit their passenger van, police said.
Emergency crews were called out to the crash about 3.5 miles north of Waldport at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police said that a Dodge Ram truck driven by Spencer Foley, 23 of Toledo, was headed south towing a flatbed trailer with a Polaris off-road vehicle on board.
At around milepost 152 the trailer started to fishtail back and forth. Eventually it broke free of the truck and went into the northbound lane.
The trailer hit the side of a Toyota Sienna van carrying two women, police said. The off-road vehicle left the trailer and hit the van as well.
State police pronounced the two women dead at the scene.
Investigators said that the van's airbags were deployed and the women were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The Oregon Department of Transportation closed the highway in both directions while crews managed the crash scene.
Highway 101 was reopened just after 3 p.m. Sunday.
Why are people towing trailers that have never been tested to a NATIONAL STANDARD!!! Would any of you accept a baby seat from coming desingaged and flying through your windshield and destroying your baby? Then why are these lives any less significant when a TRAILER COMES DESINGAGED AND DESTROYS? Why has the news media been silent on over 300 deaths in 2011? Since 1975 over 16,000 deaths....since 1988 over 800,000 injured not by big rigs...but from Passenger cars that tow trailers. www.dangeroustrailers.org and see the evidence. Then go to facebook...PRAYERS FOR NATALIE....OVER 1,500,000 IN MEDICAL BILLS AND SEE HER EYES.....THEY WILL NEVER BE THE DAME DUE TO A LOOSE BOAT TRAILER HITTING HER!!
Does KVAl staff know the difference between a flatbed trailer and a utility trailer? apparently not. They would rather keep perpetuating the "Big Truck" accidents, using phrasing in reference to a commercial vehicle..Sensationalize the "BIG TRUCK" crashed ,when in reality its a pickup pulling a utility trailer with a ATV on it...Think I need to let OOIDA know what goes on with this news station.. maybe they can educate KVAL between the differences
