Two dead from head-on collision near Elkton
ELKTON, Ore. -- Two people are dead after they crashed head-on with a truck Sunday morning while driving around a corner on Highway 138W near Elkton.
A male driver and a female pasenger were driving westbound on Highway 138 about 8 miles southeast of Elkton. The driver passed three vehicles at around 10:30 a.m. and re-entered the westbound lane just before entering a right hand corner.
The driver failed to make the corner and went into the opposite lane, where the vehicle hit a Chevy pickup containing Paul and Teri Wellington, (both 59 years old from Redding, California). The Wellingtons were unable to avoid hitting the vehicle head-on.
Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle who missed the corner died from injuries sustained in the head-on crash. Officials said that the man was wearing a seat belt, the woman was not.
Their names will be released when police officials can contact next of kin.
Paul and Teri Wellington were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg with non-life threatening injuries. They were both wearing seat belts.
The highway was closed for over two hours while emergency crews worked to clear the crash site.

I was only 5 or 6 cars back from this accident. I didn't see it happen, but I got out to see if anyone needed CPR as EMS hadn't arrived. I didn't make it up to the crash site before they started having cars route around. 138 is a grinder...be careful everyone. Prayers to the family.
Once we leave our houses we put ourselves in danger zone. Â Be alert, expect the unexpected on all curves. Â The fatality wrecks on hwy 20, 228, 126 know 138 are sobering. Â I wish once the blood and debris are washed away by EMT"s that a memorial would be posted at site as a reminder to slow down.
We were right behind it 5th vehicle back and it was the road between Elkton and Sutherlin near a sharp turn. :-(
My sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. I'm confused about the location of the accident. I'm familiar with the junction of 138 and 38 at the North end of Elkton so I'm not understanding how this accident happened on 138W but was South of Elkton. Unless, they meant North of Elkton, which would make perfect sense.
@CaptchaThis Google Elkton Oregon..look at the map..138 does not go north of Elkton. There is no north of Elkton.. Elkton sits on a hwy that runs east /west
@CaptchaThis Anywhere on hwy 138 would be south of  Elkton
