SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A fatal single-vehicle crash blocked part of Main Street at South 41st after a 63-year-old drove off the roadway Saturday afternoon, Officials with the Springfield Police Department said.

Donald Gene Dorry, 63 from Springfield, was driving eastbound on Main Street around 4:30 p.m. when police said he lost control of his vehicle. Dorry drove onto the sidewalk, hit a bus stop sign and wedged his Chevy El Camino in between a utility pole and a business sign.

He did not run into other vehicles or pedestrians during the crash.

Responding Springfield Fire and Rescue personnel had to extricate Dorry from the vehicle. They performed CPR at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to McKenzie Willamette Hospital. Dorry was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

The Springfield Police Department said it does not know what caused Dorry to drive off of the road. SPD officials are continuing an investigation into the crash and ask anyone with additional information to call 541-726-3714.

The Oregon Department of Transportation reported delays of over 20 minutes as emergency crews closed one lane to work the crash scene. For current traffic updates go to ODOT's website.
