Fire crews practice by burning down house

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Firefighters burned down an uninhabited house donated for practice purposes.
South Lane County Fire and Rescue firefighters conducted the Live Fire Training event at 676 North 11th Street Cottage Grove on Saturday, February 17.
The home was donated for the exercise by the Bernice Thoreson family.
This training allowed firefighters the chance to get first-hand fire suppression experience in a safe and controlled environment, said Joe Raade, division chief with South Lane Fire and Rescue. Outside of controlled exercises like this one, firefighters only have a chance to practice during actual fires.
