REEDSPORT, Ore. -- A fire has destroyed about four apartments in a complex off of Highway 101 on the west side of Reedsport.

Fire crews were called to the Edgewood Apartments on Frontage Road at around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Two people and some pets were treated for smoke inhalation and released at the scene.

The Reedsport city manager says the cause of the fire is under investigation. "We don't know how it started," said Jonathan Wright. "The Fire Marshal has been called, and they'll be coming out and doing investigations. As of yet, none of the tenants seem to know what cause the fire to start."

In addition to many local fire departments helping fight the fire, inmates from Shutter Creek Correctional Facility were brought in to help with ladders.

The Red Cross is helping residents displaced by the fire, along with a local church.

Fire crews from Reedsport were assisted by several other agencies at the scene, including crews from Winchester Bay, North Bay, Lakeside and Hauser.
