Fire destroys family home
PLEASANT HILL, Ore. - A fire destroyed a two-story family home Monday night.
No one was injured, but the house was a total loss. Firefighters at the scene said initial damage estimates approached $675,000.
There were no fire hydrants in the area, so fire crews had to truck in water.
"A structure fire of this size requires quite a bit of water to put out," said David Wolting, fire chief of the Goshen Fire District.
He said firefighters drove water tenders - trucks designed to haul water for firefighting - to supply the effort.
Volunteer firefighters from Dexter, Goshen, Pleasant Hill, Springfield, McKenzie and Coburg responded to help, Wolting said.
"The upside of this being a holiday, there were quite a few volunteers available to respond to this."
