SUTHERLIN, Ore. - Firefighters kept flames from spreading from a burning house to nearby structures Wednesday night.

The residents and three dogs got out OK. A fourth dog re-entered the building and died in the fire, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said.

Crews got the call just afer 7 p.m. that a house on Kruse Street was on fire.

The first engine arrived on scene 4 minutes later and found the home in flames, with fire spreading to a nearby home and threatening a third structure.

Firefighters and police made sure everyone was out of the houses as crews went to work protecting the two threatened structures.

With those homes protected, they turned their attention to the burning house. Firefighters said they have the blaze under control by 7:39 p.m., a half hour after the call came in.

Investigators were on scene Thursday morning to determine the cause of the fire.
