Firefighters rescue dogs, cats from Corvallis blaze

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Firefighters rescued 2 dogs and 3 cats from a house fire Wednesday, and firefighters had to revive one of the dogs.

Crews from the Corvallis Fire Department and the Corvallis Rural Fire Protection District responded to the Elliott Circle home around 12:30 p.m.

They were greeted by "significant" fire.

Firefighters had the blaze under control wihin 20 minutes, the fire department said.

The pets rescued from the burning home were picked up by staff from the nearby All Creatures Great and Small veterinarian clinic.

No humans were home at the time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire left the home uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross met with the family at the scene to provide assistance..

The damage to the east exterior side of the home was significant. 

The kitchen and the attic area also sustained significant damage, and most of the other rooms in the house sustained moderate smoke and heat damage, the fire department said.
