EUGENE, Ore. - A half inch of snow could fall overnight in the Eugene area, National Weather Service forecasters said.

The snow level is forecast to fall to 500 feet, above downtown Eugene at about 400 feet but low enough to bring snow to the hills outside Eugene and Springfield.

The chance of low elevation snow will continue through the weekend, forecasters said.

"There will be a disturbance moving through the area mainly on Thursday that has a chance of dropping snow levels to near the valley floor," forecasters said. "While a few inches are possible at higher elevations, amounts will be limited at the valley floor."

If snow doesn't fall Thursday, there might be another shot at snow this weekend.

"Computer models indicate that there will be another system dropping south along the coast later Saturday and Saturday night that has an even better chance of producing snow to the valley floors," forecasters said.
