PORTLAND, Ore. - Up until now he's been just a name - a man shot dead as he worked as a bouncer at a popular Southeast Portland entertainment complex.

Now we can put a face to that name.

Robert Greene, 30, died of a single gunshot wound this past weekend while he was outside the Grand Central Restaurant and Bowling Lounge at Southeast 8th and Morrison Street. Greene worked there as a bouncer.

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses said there was a rowdy group at Grand Central's front door just minutes before they heard gunfire.

"I don't know what all happened but it seemed like he was just trying to help out the situation," said Sarah Vivoda, one of Greene's friends.

No arrests have been made at this point and it's unclear whether Greene was a target or the victim of a stray bullet. Police did tow a car from the scene following the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Molly Daul at (503) 823-0991.

Meanwhile, we are learning a few more details about the victim.

Friends say he was generally an easygoing guy. He had only been working at Grand Central for a short time but had a lot of experience working door security at other night spots around Portland.

Those who worked with him at Grand Central said Greene was always willing to learn new things about his job and take on new responsibilities.

"We feel for him, the family, all the employees" said Dan Lenzen, co-owner of Grand Central. "All we can do is put prayers out for him and the family and extended families."
