Gran Fondo Bike Ride rolls out in Cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Almost 400 cyclists rode in the first ever Gran Fondo Bike Ride Saturday morning in Cottage Grove.
The ride is fashioned in the old traditions of Italian cycling, yet is new to the South Lane community. People of all ages and skill levels came out Saturday for the ride. Some cyclists competed, others rode the course and enjoyed the great biking weather.
Cyclists in the Gran Fondo helped to raise money for both the Cottage Grove Pool and The South Lane Athletics Association.
"It's for a good cause, a charitable donation. But also for getting out, being a little competitive in nature," said Jeff Cavin, before the ride kicked off.
The event gathered passionate cyclists from all over Oregon, Washington and several other states.
