One dead, one injured in Hwy 99 crash

EUGENE, Ore. -- One person was killed in a two truck collision on Highway 99 Friday afternoon, Police said.
A tan Toyota pickup truck carrying two people was driving northbound on Highway 99 Friday afternoon when at around 2:20 p.m. a silver Chevy pickup truck attempted to turn left from Awbrey Lane onto Hwy 99 (crossing the northbound lane to the southbound lane). The Toyota ran into the side of the Chevy pickup head-on.
The crash partially blocked traffic on the highway near the Eugene Airport.
Police said that the two passengers of the tan truck were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the Toyota pickup, Patrick McGuirk, 50 of Eugene, is said to be in treatment for his serious injuries. McGuirk's passenger, David Rodney Thom, 45 of Eugene, died at the hospital.
Troopers said that the driver of the Chevy pickup, later identified as Gregory Garn, 46 of Eugene, was able to walk away from the crash uninjured.
Emergency crews partially closed off the highway for about two hours as emergency crews worked the scene.
Investigators from the state police force are still looking into the crash.
I am sorry for the loss of this gentleman. Â Accidents happen. Â This other guy made a mistake at pulling out in front but I am sure we all have done it once in a while. Â Now he is the one to have to live with that mistake. Â I am sorry that he has to do that, too.
Again, lots of prayers going out to all who were involved and to the family and friends.
Careless drivers taking other people lives in their hands by taking stupid chances. Why couldn't the Chevy truck driver wait a few seconds to pull out? Now he gets to spend the rest of his life knowing he KILLED someone with his "chance". My prayers are with the family and friends of the one lost this terrible day.
That is bad. The first sentence says ran into the side. And the third sentence says head on. At least kval gave us enough clues to figure out the Chevy pulled out in front of the "tan" truck. My concern is the racism. Why did they call the innocent truck by its color.
@givupongod That is what you worry about? Are you searious? You decide to make a joke out of a report on a death? Really? What is wrong with you? Oh, and just bt the way, if you read the article again you would see the the Chevy is silver.
@givupongod They must have edited it because I don't see where they commented on race.
Another avoidable wreck that should have never happened. Someone will not have a loved one at home tonight.

I do wish that KVAL staffers would do a better job of writing these stories. It said "The tan truck ran into Chevy pickup" head on". They did not exactly run head-on into each other as the pictures show. Still, one person is dead from what appears a serious error on the part of silver Chevy pickup driver.
