Hermiston woman kidnapped by ex-boyfriend

HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) - The Umatilla County sheriff's office says police have found a car associated with the kidnapping of a Hermiston woman believed to have been abducted by her ex-boyfriend last week.

The car was found at a cabin near Crescent Lake, nearly 300 miles from where Melody Kaye Mickel disappeared last Thursday.

Separately, Oregon State Police say a man has barricaded himself in a cabin near Crescent Lake, and a SWAT team was negotiating with him. They would not say whether he is the suspected abductor.

Mickel is believed to have gotten into the car of ex-boyfriend Alberto Quiroz Martinez after leaving work at a Hermiston drug store last Thursday.

Mickel is 26. Martinez is a 28-year-old agricultural worker who has served time for attempted rape and kidnapping.
