Ice skaters put on holiday showcase Saturday

EUGENE, Ore. - From beginner to expert skaters, the rink at the Lane Ice Center caters to all levels.

"My parents didn't really expect me to actually like it," said Delaney Andrist, director of this weekend's ice skating show. "I got the group lesson skating package, the 8-week term, for a Christmas present, and they kind of assumed I'd stop after that. Thirteen years later, I'm still doing it. I just fell in love with it."

Four-year-old Clo Quaranto is already mastering her skills after 4 months on ice.

"Swizzels, and doing this," she said as she made a dip. "What I like about it is doing that."

To celebrate the season, skaters are putting on a holiday exhibition this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the ice center at the Lane County Fairgrounds.

"The Eugene Figure Skating Club is presenting Music on Ice as a benefit for Toys for Tots," said Carolyn Brown, the club's vice president. "It's our gift back to the community this year."

"We've been working on this show since August, really focusing on it," Andrist said. "So it seems like there's always a ton of build up for it, so I'm really excited."

The show will feature over 70 skaters, from ages 3 to 73.

The stands are heated, and the proceeds benefit Toys for Tots.
