LORANE, Ore. -- Six people were seriously injured in a head-on crash that closed Territorial Highway Saturday night about two miles north of Lorane, Oregon State Police said.

Officials said the crash happened at around 3:40 p.m. when a southbound Chevy Silverado, driven by Rick Kitzel, 20, of Eugene, crossed the center line near the intersection of Territorial Highway and Hamm Road.

Marcos Quiahua-Quiahua, 40, of Eugene, was his Nissan Pathfinder north when he saw Kitzel's Chevy coming.

According to state troopers, Quiahua-Quiahua swerved into the south lane to avoid the Chevy at the same time Kitzel corrected the wheel back to his lane. The pickups crashed head-on.

Quiahua-Quiahua, his four passengers, and Kitzel were all taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

One of the Nissan's passengers, Maria Ynez, 42, of Eugene, was flown to the hospital by air ambulance.

State Police blocked the highway for three hours while crews cleared the roadway and reconstructed the crash.
