SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A K-9 unit helped officers track down a man they suspect had broken into a truck in Springfield early Sunday morning, police said.
At around 3:10 a.m. Sunday a man called police, saying that he saw a man breaking into his friend's truck in the 100 block of S Street.
The arriving officer brought the newest member of the Springfield K9 team, "Dago" (pronounced Dog-O), out to the scene to help them investigate the break in.
Officials said that "Dago" picked up on the suspect's scent and led police down a nearby bike path.
The K9 unit led police directly to 27-year-old Brandon Sackett, a known transient in the area.
Officers searched Sackett and found property reported missing from the truck, as well as a type of hole punch commonly used to break car windows with minimal noise, police said.
Sackett faces multiple charges, including criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools and two theft charges.
