Kayakers rescued, 2nd water rescue for Albany Fire Saturday
ALBANY, Ore.--Two kayakers are safe Saturday night after one of their boats capsized near Hyak park near Albany.
The Albany Fire Department responded when they got the call from a third kayaker that one of the boaters couldn't get back into the kayak after their boat hit debris in the Willamette River around 6 p.m. A second kayaker, who remained upright stayed alongside the stranded kayakers in the water.
Rescue crews launched a rescue boat water craft with three rescue specialists onboard at Hyak Park boat landing, while additional crews placed themselves in strategic spots along the river downstream. Crews were able to rescue the two near Bowman park, after making initial contact with the two people in the water near Bryant Park.
The kayakers received initial medial treatment while they were taken to shore. One of the kayakers is in unknown condition after being taken to Albany General Hospital before being transfered to OHSU in Portland.
Corvallis Fire Department and Benton County Sheriff's Department also responded.
This was the second water rescue in one day for the Albany Fire Department Saturday.
