Kidnapping charges dropped in case of 11-year-old runaway

EUGENE, Ore. - Prosecutors dropped kidnapping charges againt a 23-year-old man who picked up an 11-year-old runaway girl from Junction City and drove her to his home in Florence.



Instead, the district attorney's office formally charged Michael Libario Cassaro with custodial interference and recklessly endangering, according to Deputy District Attorney Patty Perlow.



Junction City Police Chief Mark Chase said the 11-year-old girl ran away from home and met up with Cassaro late in the evening Aug. 19 a few blocks from her home in Junction City.



Cassaro then took the girl to his home in Florence.



Junction City Police notified Florence Police Department, who arrived at Cassaro's residence shortly after the two arrived.
