Kyron Horman's father wants divorce delayed
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Attorneys for the father of missing Oregon boy Kyron Horman have asked a judge to delay his divorce from the child's stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman.
Kaine Horman filed for divorce in June 2010, less than a month after his 7-year-old son vanished from a Portland school. No arrests have been made in Kyron's disappearance, but Kaine Horman and the boy's biological mother believe Terri Horman knows what happened.
Kaine Horman said after Monday's hearing that he wants the delay to allow the criminal investigation to proceed without interference, and to protect his 4-year-old daughter.
"We're doing the absolute best we can," Kaine Horman told The Oregonian. "She puts a smile on our face every day."
One of his attorneys, Brett Engel, questioned how the court could decide whether it's in the best interest of the couple's daughter to have contact with her mother, without knowing if Terri Horman was responsible for Kyron's disappearance.
"If (Kaine) believes this woman is responsible for Kyron's disappearance, do you think he'll feel good about providing spousal support?" Engel asked in court.
Terri Horman's divorce attorney, Peter Bunch, argued against any postponement. He suggested the divorce proceedings go forward, with limitations placed on what questions can be asked of his client.
"Two years, seven months — that's how long it's been," Bunch said. "That's a long time."
Judge Henry Kantor said he would rule in about two weeks.
Terri Horman, who lives 175 miles south of Portland in Roseburg, did not attend the hearing.
Kyron Horman was last seen at Skyline School on June 4, 2010. His stepmother had driven him there for a science fair.
Kaine Horman filed for divorce 24 days later, shortly after investigators told him that six months earlier he had been the target of a murder-for-hire plot discussed by Terri Horman and a landscaper. He has had sole custody of their daughter since then.

"Kaine Horman filed for divorce 24 days later , shortly after investigators told him that six months earlier he had been the target of a murder-for-hire plot discussed by Terri Horman and a landscaper." This in itself should be adequate reason the woman should NOT be allowed custody of the little girl. She considered hiring someone to commit MURDER!!! Show's what kind of person she is! The non-cooperation and suspicion of involvement in the dissappearance of Kyron is just additional reason.

Gila Momster sold his sought after O-neg universal donar organs to the mob? Maddening and tear jerking for the parents (all of us) not knowing what ever became of the cute little guy.
I hate to judge, but it sure seems reasonable that if the above is true, none of us will ever see him ever again.SOB!
There is NOT a shred of evidence that says Terri Horman is responsible for Kyron's disappearance - like it or not. So how does a judge NOT give her half custody of HER child? This has gone on LONG enough- either produce evidence that she is unfit or let the divorce proceed.
@LifeisGOOD007 I would think they won't give her rights to her child because she PLOTTED TO KILL HER HUSBAND! Just a guess though...
@LifeisGOOD007 While I can agree with you to a certain extent, there are two factors that (for me) cast doubt on Ms. Horman's innocence (I'm not saying that she is guilty... just that she may or may not be either guilty or innocent - way to sit on the fence huh!): There is circumstantial evidence linking her to the disappearance and she has always been uncooperative in helping with the investigation.
Â
As for how a judge denies her custody of her child... wasn't she found to have tried to hire a hit man to kill off her husband? That right there screams inept parent to me :/
@XoztedMama Folks if she TRULY plotted to kill her husband in a murder-for-hire plot why didn't a grand jury indict her on conspiracy charges?! Think about it- being indicted would have helped Law Enforcement with their case against her AND would have helped Kaine Horman to prove she is an unfit mother. It is tough to convict SOLELY on circumstantial evidence-  I am not saying that I think she is innocent- I am just saying there is NOT an iota of evidence against her. Pleading the fifth is NOT an indication of guilt  - it is what an lawyer would tell herto do. She is under NO obligation to HELP law enforcement indict her! Innocent people who did not take advantage of their 5th amendment have been found guilty!Â
@LifeisGOOD007 There is circumstantial evidence....like it or not.
@ntk0716 The evidence indicates that Kyron's mother in the culprit
