NEAR DORENA LAKE, Ore. -- Sheriff's deputies said that they found the body of a deceased man near Dorena Lake Wednesday afternoon, adding that they believe it to be a man who went missing from Douglas County last week.
Officials said that the body was found on the north side of Dorena Reservoir near the Harms Park boat landing.
The Lane County Sheriff's Office said that they believe the deceased is Brian Trumbo, a man who was reported missing on Thursday, Dec. 28.
Officials said that the medical examiner is working to identify the body and determine the cause of death.
Family members said that the 27-year-old Brian Trumbo was last seen leaving his Oakland, Ore. home on December 11th. Officials said that Trumbo told his relatives that he was taking a trip to the Eugene-area.
Officials with Douglas County Sheriff's Department reported Trumbo missing on Dec. 28th, nearly two weeks after he was reported missing.
After the missing person's report was released, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said that they found a car matching his vehicle's description near Dorena Lake.
LCSO deputies located Trumbo's Expedition at the Rat Creek Boat Ramp area on Dec. 12, the day after he left Oakland.
The Lane County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the missing man to call at 541-682-4141. Trumbo’s case number is 12-8396.
This is a developing story, updates can be found on this website or its television affiliate when they become available.
This makes no sense to me. He was not suicidal. The last time i talked to him, about a month before this happened, he was living a happy life. He was one of my best friends. There is something seriously wrong with this story and I feel there is a 100% possibility of foul play.
Possible deal gone bad.
I think the confusion is coming from the fact that KVAL changes their stories on here with no notice. Â So something that may have been reported was later edited. Â
I'm sorry for the family/friend's loss. Prayers are going your way...
Sounds to me like everyone was doing their job. It also sounds like this man planned to disappear, perhaps was suicidal. Very sad, but there wasn't much anyone could do, more than they've done already.
People, this is an adult, who was last seen on the 11th. After some time had gone by,and he hasn't contacted anyone,or answered his phone etc,friends/family probably started to wonder. A day or two later, they started really worrying. Contacting the friends of his they knew about, checking his house. Should they be really freaked out? Should they wait? Finally, they decided it was time to call the police. Meanwhile back at Dorena Lake, very near Cottage Grove Or(and sometimes referred to as Cottage Grove lake)a deputy happened to notice a somewhat suspicious vacant car. It is not on the hot sheet, nor is there any sign of a crime/or crimes. Many days later,a missing person report or a BOLO or whatever comes into the sheriff's office with the missing person's vehicle included. The deputy who discovered the somewhat suspicious vacant car many days ago sees the Missing Person's Report and says to his supervisor "I found this vehicle, here is my incident report." Now they know that the missing person's vehicle was discovered by one of their officers within 24 hours of his last sighting, abandoned. Now they know he hasn't tried to retrieve his car. Now they know something is very very wrong. So they begin to search. Not inconsistant story,or bad reporting. Just a bit of a confusion about understanding the timeline of events. I'm so sorry for this ending.
@itstherain2 Dorena Lake and Cottage Grove Lake are two complete different Lakes! He was found at Dorena Lake!
@itstherain2 Not inconsistent story or bad reporting? The majority of what you stated was not in the article, but the conclusions you drew regarding his family reporting him missing and when/why the vehicle was discovered were the same as mine. It also states, "The Lane County Sheriff's Office said that they believe the deceased is Brian Trumbo, a man who was reported missing on Thursday, Dec. 28." and then states, "Officials with Douglas County Sheriff's Department reported Trumbo missing on Dec. 28th, nearly two weeks after he was reported missing." Really? What does that even mean? The article is confusing and poorly written by a PAID journalist.
so they said at first his car was found by cottage grove lake now its dorena lake? lotts of inconsitancy in the whole story on all sides!
should be an interesting one to investigate
This whole story is full of contradictions. His family said he told them he was taking a trip to Eugene-area and was last seen on December 11th. Then it says he was reported missing on December 28th. THEN it says deputies located his vehicle on December 12th....seriously? Why would deputies LOOK for his vehicle if he wasn't reported missing until the 28th (unless of course it was reported as abandoned which, if so, SHOULD have been included in this article). aky, I wouldn't report my adult son missing if he said he was taking a trip to Eugene unless he gave me a specific return date or contact dates and he missed one. And don't put this on Lane County Sheriffs Office if vital information was not included in this so-called "news" article. Who knows WHEN they started searching...you sure can't tell by what was reported here!
@captchthis -- "During the investigation, detectives learned that on December 12 (a day later), the Lane County Sheriff's Office found Trumbo's Expedition abandoned in a creek bed near Dorena Lake." -- http://www.kval.com/news/local/Have-you-seen-him-Police-seek-missing-Oakland-man-185164901.html
Really? They found his car on the 12th and didn't search for him until Monday the 31st! I sure hope if I ever go missing my family has the resources to search for me without lane county sheriffs!
@aky Lane Co Search and Rescue are all volunteers. Resources are not the issue! Finding a vehicle he was driving, and I'm assuming wasn't registered in his name does not automatically initiate a search. I don't know any of the details, but having previously workied in law enforcement, I can tell you there are a lot of things that go on every day that the normal citizen doesn't even think of. I don't know how many times vehicles have been located and when you contact the registered owner they sold it a year ago to some guy named Joe who never did a transfer. The RO doesn't know Joe's last name or where he lived. How is law enforcement supposed to track down Joe? Also, all of rural south Lane County is a dumping ground for stolen vehicles. It is not odd at all to find a vehicle dumped. Ask anybody that spends any amount of time in the woods. There is always more to the story and I can tell you from personal experience, the media reports the parts of the story they want and leave out what they think isn't important, when in fact, it really is.
@aky He wasn't considered a missing person to police because lack of evidence. Its all fucked up and for your information, he was one of my best friends. we loved him and everyone was searching for him for a while. they put together a bigger search with what little resources they had.
@aky they tried to find him, tried to report him missing, they didn't know because police wouldn't take a report and they didn't know his car was found and they were sreaching!!
@aky You know nothing about him or his family.
