Citizen finds human remains in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Douglas County Sheriff's detectives have confirmed that remains found on private property west of Roseburg are those of an adult female.
On Monday, July 2, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detective’s Division was notified of possible human skeletal remains that were discovered by a citizen back on June 30.
Detectives contacted the citizen, who took law enforcement to the area where he discovered the remains. Detectives confirmed the remains were human.
Extensive searches of the area were conducted with the assistance of the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Douglas County Search and Rescue Team. During these searches additional items of evidence were collected including items of clothing.
At this time, identification of the remains is pending DNA processing, which could take up to several months.
Detectives are continuing their investigation and have been assisted by the Douglas County Major Crimes Team.
