Lane County jobless rate lowest since 2008; outlook good for 2014

EUGENE, Ore. - The jobless rate in Lane County is down to 7.2 percent, the lowest it has been since the recession took hold in 2008.

Glenda Poling, manager of the Lane County Economic Development Division, said it's excellent news - and she points toward continuing progress for 2014.

Poling said the unemployment rate is down due to expansion of several job sectors and incoming new business.

Those include advanced manufacturing; home and commercial construction; food and beverage industry; and wood products.

More good news is on the horizon with the pending opening of First Call Resolution center in Veneta.
The town's mayor, Sandy Larson, told KVAL News the call cneter is set to open mid-January. That means 100 jobs in Veneta to begin, with the potential for up to 300 jobs.

Also opening next month at the West Lane Center is O'Reilly Auto Parts, next door to the call center.
