Flash, bang, burn: The Lebanon Fire Department kept this fire to less than a few square yards. An engine en route to the fire Sunday discovered a second grass fire. Crews kept that fire from spreading too far, as well.

LEBANON, Ore. - Gary Crossan noticed a dark cloud to the south Sunday and called one of his neighbors to asl him what was going on with the weather.

"He told me there was something brewing over there, might want to get your combines off the field," Crossan recalled.

Then lightning splintered a tree and set the brush on fire.

"It's pretty intense," Crossan said. "It's amazing the power of Mother Nature."

Crossan called the fire department. Crews contained the blaze to a few yards of ground.

And while en route to the fire to that fire on Sand Ridge Road, one of the engines discovered another grass fire. Both fires were held to less than a 1/4 acre.
