'Like all kids, they're excited to open something new on Christmas'

EUGENE, Ore. -- With Christmas a week away, children in Lane County's foster care system will have some items crossed off their wish list thanks to a generous donation from Les Schwab Tires.

Melissa Askew, an official with the Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, said there are more than 1,100 children without a stable home environment living in Lane County.

“These kids are like all kids, they're excited to open something new on Christmas morning,” said Askew.

Les Schwab Tires pitched in by donating fifty bags of toys to the Foster and Adoptive Parent Association of Lane County.

“This time of year is definitely a time for children, and like to reach out to the less fortunate children in the area and help brighten their Christmas a little bit,” said Jason Gale of Les Schwab.

While they appreciate the large number of toys they receive for children in the elementary school age and younger, the foster parent association says they could always use gift donations for teenagers living in their system.
