December is a busy month for e-tailer Backcountry Gear

EUGENE, Ore. - Backcountry Gear in Eugene is one of thousands of retailers taking part in Cyber Monday, a term coined in 2005 to describe the e-tail rush after the retail storm of Black Friday and the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

"It's just a couple of clicks at the button and you can have some of this stuff at your doorstep tomorrow," said Mike South at Backcountry Gear.

More than 131 million shoppers like Shiloh Appel were expected to place orders Monday.

"It makes it convenient," Appel said. "You get stuff in your mailbox every day from them or alerts, however you have your phone set up."

That number of shoppers is up from last year, according to the National Retail Federation.

And it's more than a day, South said.

"Honestly, it's a Cyber December for us because we are web-based," he said.

Euphoria Chocolate also does a lot of online business this time of year.

"We do get thousands of orders online," said Bob Bury with Euphoria, "and increasingly so."

Euphoria had product wrapped and ready for what was expected to be the busiest online shopping day of the year.

"You don't want to overlook that," Bury said. "If you ignore it, you're going to get left in the dust."
