Man cleared of Corvallis sex abuse allegation
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland man is no longer accused of attempting to sexually abuse a woman in a Corvallis motel room.
Benton County prosecutors said Wednesday the charge against 33-year-old Peter Humberd was dismissed because of insufficient evidence.
The woman told police last month that she and a male friend fell asleep in a room at the Rodeway Inn, and she awoke to find a stranger on top of her.
The friend told police the action did not appear consensual and he yelled at the man.
Humberd's attorney, Michael Arnold, said his client passed a lie-detector test and there were "severe inconsistencies" in the statements of the woman and the male friend.
In a statement provided by his lawyer, Humberd said: "I'm just glad this nightmare is over."
