SILVER FALLS, Ore. -- State police officials are looking into what caused a man to collapse and die Saturday afternoon at Silver Falls State Park.
Investigators said they believe Richard Proksch, 66 of Salem, died of an unknown medical condition while he was hiking with his family at the state park.
Troopers were called out to Silver Falls State Park at around 4:30 pm Saturday after getting a call about an unresponsive male. They arrived to find Proksch had collapsed while hiking with his family.
A State Park Ranger was first on-scene and started CPR. Officials said that medics arrived a short time later and continued to try and revive Proksch without success.
