CRESWELL, Ore. - A man faces charges of murder and arson after a house fire July 16 near Creswell.

The human remains found in the home on Bryant Road have been identified as Dennis Michael Kelley, 65, and Carl Robb McFarland, 69.

Both men lived on the farm and were missing in the aftermath of the fire.

Deputies arrested Eugene Whitehall, 42, and jailed him on 2 counts of aggravated murder and 1 count of arson.

The sheriff's office said Whitehall had worked on the farm in the past. The sheriff's office said they found evidence linking him to the crime.

The sheriff's office declined to say whether Kelley and McFarland died before the fire or as a result of the fire.

Whitehall is scheduled to be arraigned at the Lane County Jail at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
