COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Christian Rodriguez got hit in the head with an ax when he tried to stop a drunk person from getting behind the wheel of a car, Rodriguez told KVAL News.

Rodriguez said that he was partying with friends at a campsite early Saturday morning by Row River in Cottage Grove.

When one of the people at the campsite tried to leave, Rodriguez said he intervened by asking for the man's keys.

"I told him to give me his keys I told because he was drinking and driving, and that's not the safest thing to do. So, instead his buddy came up and pushes me," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez claimed that he turned and walked away from the situation after he was pushed. That is when he said that he felt a blow to the back of his head.

"The guy decides to come up with an ax and just hits me in the back of the head," Rodriguez said.

He was taken to the hospital in Cottage Grove, where Rodriguez received 10 stitches in the back of his head. That is when he filed a report on the incident with the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

Officials from the Lane County Sheriff's Office said that they are continuing the investigation into Christian's hatcheting incident. They added that when they arrived at the campsite later Saturday morning, it had been deserted.

Rodriguez is now recovering from the blow at his older brother's house in Springfield, where he said that he is lucky to be alive.

Alan Rodriguez, Christian's older brother said he doesn't know who hit his brother in the head with the ax, but he hopes to find justice for his brother.

"I want to see the person behind bars, I want him to realize what he did wasn't right," Alan Rodriguez said.
