Man says 'Give me your keys' = Ax in back of head

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Christian Rodriguez got hit in the head with an ax when he tried to stop a drunk person from getting behind the wheel of a car, Rodriguez told KVAL News.
Rodriguez said that he was partying with friends at a campsite early Saturday morning by Row River in Cottage Grove.
When one of the people at the campsite tried to leave, Rodriguez said he intervened by asking for the man's keys.
"I told him to give me his keys I told because he was drinking and driving, and that's not the safest thing to do. So, instead his buddy came up and pushes me," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez claimed that he turned and walked away from the situation after he was pushed. That is when he said that he felt a blow to the back of his head.
"The guy decides to come up with an ax and just hits me in the back of the head," Rodriguez said.
He was taken to the hospital in Cottage Grove, where Rodriguez received 10 stitches in the back of his head. That is when he filed a report on the incident with the Lane County Sheriff's Office.
Officials from the Lane County Sheriff's Office said that they are continuing the investigation into Christian's hatcheting incident. They added that when they arrived at the campsite later Saturday morning, it had been deserted.
Rodriguez is now recovering from the blow at his older brother's house in Springfield, where he said that he is lucky to be alive.
Alan Rodriguez, Christian's older brother said he doesn't know who hit his brother in the head with the ax, but he hopes to find justice for his brother.
"I want to see the person behind bars, I want him to realize what he did wasn't right," Alan Rodriguez said.
@Fancy Jack  missing the point. It was very clear ALCOHOL was involved. The fact that you talk the way you do makes me think you either 1. A poor troll craving attention 2. Know the perp and are attempting to justify the crime based on others moral conduct 3. Have no soul. Either way sounds like your a well read dumbass without one of those filters many are born with. I feel sorry for people like that.
@fb77 There is a point to all this? This is just so much adolescent drama, one dumbass got his head cracked open by another dumbass. The term is sociopath, although today, the inexact science of psychiatry refers to it as an antisocial personality disorder. Filters are for the weak, the fearful and timid hide behind social norms so as not to be confronted by reality, these folks are usually left bleeding and getting staples. Ask the grammar Nazi why "your" was used inappropriately, it does not bother me as I understood the point you are trying to make. I embrace the irony of "your" less than filtered insult. As for a soul, I have none, when I die, I am going to put hell under new management. Save "your" empathy, it is lost on meÂ
@Fancy Jack Then do us a favor and hang yourself already:)
@fb77 Has Christian or any of the other perps been arrested?
@Fancy Jack  @fb77 I will not claim full responsibility for the arrests of the 2 perpetrators. I will not say anything further, but i will say this, Justice is being served and with the help from this news station, and with the aid of the community, this case is moving in the direction in needs to.
@fb77 Through no fault of your own I presume? Will there be arrests of the other criminals present or will amnesia play a role in their avoiding prosecution?
@Fancy Jack I am in fact very happy to report that the perpetrator is in custody in Douglas county:) as you were saying Mr. Fancy the Observable Jack Ass?
Â
@fb77 One is clean and refreshing and the other is brutally honest, different, but not mutually exclusive. What is obvious is that you have an emotional stake in this incident, Your sister was there, it is obvious to the casual observer that the assault occurred with out interference, because everyone there, and yourself I might add, are afraid to confront these situations, simple cowardice is common, you are the one that is angry, you failed to act, your sister knows who assaulted Christian and you know as well, but your lack of courage prevents you from notifing the authorities. This also suggests that those involved lack the moral high ground to pursue this issue out of self preservation, morally bankrupt and cowardly, defines the youth of today.
You may have self diagnosed yourself with that pathology, but anyone that knows anything can clearly see your a deuche. There is a difference.
@fb77 I thought we established that I was a sociopath, I have no capacity for anger.
 @Fancy Jack  @fb77 :) lol Mad bro?
@fb77 I will save a place in hell for you, an inarticulate place, but a place all the same.
You can't reason with drunks. Especially if you're drunk yourself.
Baldr Odinson, are you now going to advocate against hatchets, or is it only guns that is your thing.
@souptonuts "Stop Axe Violence"--Axes can kill. They can be purchased without a background check..." Sound about right?
It's heroic of Rodriguez to try to save the guy's life and do the right thing. Â Clearly heroism has it's price. Â He couldn't have predicted, I guess, that the guy's "buddy" would be so violent. Â If there were any hint that the drinker or his buddy would turn violent, it would have been better to move away from them and call the police if the guy drove off, particularly if Rodriguez didn't know them well.
@Baldr Odinson I disagree, Rodriguez by his presence, was part of the problem,. the activity they were engaged in precluded them from calling the cops, it was not an option, the group went camping to engage in a specific activity, I suspect that other participants were drunk or drugged, were minors and unable to give consent or legally consume alcohol. This camping endeavor was to avoid police intervention.  Â
@Fancy Jack  @Baldr guess what man francy jack>>>you tell me would you try to stop a man driving drunk.... i was the bigger person there OHHH wait RESPOSIBLE FOR MY ACTIONS.. and did the right thing i lost many friends and dont like to see ppl die that way even a person i dont even know.... IM a CARING PERSON AND HAVE HART... that some ppl dont have today so talkk or thinkk all the sh** you want my friends know what had happened i know what has happned even from the begining you tell me who will remember the hole thing cuz i do....
@fb77 @Baldr I am not a dependent democrat, so I pay for my own care, and how sexist of you to assume my care provider was a woman, I doubt seriously that you pay taxes, that would require having a job and you have not demonstrated the intellectual skills necessary to get a job that pays enough for you to contribute to the tax base. the only obvious facts are that Christian got his head split open, he exercised poor judgement when he antagonized his assailants and was not prepared for the consequences of his actions. The situation is cause and effect. Christian lacks the capacity to fight and his charity appears to be misplaced. I question the judgement of everyone involved. Confronting a drunk and attempting to take his keys is a beligerent act, regardless of noble intent, the drunks response was predictable and should have been anticipated, Christians actions lead to his assault, so his intent was either to fight or to bleed, he chose bleeding.
@Fancy Jack  @Baldr Jack Ass, does your care taker watch you type this idiocy? You should fire her, I don't want my taxes paying for negligent care. What part of the incident didn't you understand? Christian was being peaceful and now it's out that Christian had Offered the 2 perps a tent to set up camp and some food... clearly he was trying to fight.
@C-ROD5 @Baldr You are a lousy combatant and a perfect victim, stay away from fighting or you will do a lot of bleeding, you did not even bring a fist to an axe fight.
@Fancy Jack  @Baldr on and i got them the next 3 days was easy small world for me haha so was i a success YUP two fucks are in jail now going to pay for what thet did lol
@Fancy Jack  @Baldr ok so you tell me this if a man pushes you and your eyes is on that man now then the other man that you were talking to to begin not to drive drunk, goes to his truck and grabs an ax and hit me with it BEHIND my back. what whould you have to say about that
Â
@C-ROD5 @Baldr The difference between you and me, is that I actually stop people from drinking and driving, You ended up in the emergency room getting your head stapled together, while the drunk drove away. Success is measured by outcomes, not intent, you failed.
@Fancy Jack  @Baldr Maybe, but you're making assumptions not mentioned in the article or video (no mention of drugs or minors).
@Baldr Odinson thanks i agree too like i said look at the small things ppl hahaha u guys make me lough
@Baldr Odinson @Baldr Intuitive deductive reasoning.
Sounds like the guy shoulda minded his own business.
@Dikweed naaaa man im not like thst i actually do care for some cases i bet you hardly see ppl do that honestly maybe a sing for somthing sh** happens for a reason and should never take it the bad way even if you are drunk
@Dikweed If you lack moral conviction and turn you back on your obligation, you will get the back of your head split open, so I agree, he should have minded his own business.
My little sister saw the incedent happen. She said that the person that did this to poor Christan was a new friend to the group of people that were at sharps creek that night. She also said that many ppl there that night HAD NOT been drinking also felt harrased by the individual, but did not want to intervene. The point is young ppl tried doing the right thing, Christian being the person he was RAISED to be paid a horrible price. I too wondered why Christian was smirking, but my sister says that he always has a smile on his face and is filled with positivity and looking at his facebook proved that. Now im starting to wonder if the reporters chopped up this story. Has anyone been arrested yet?
@fb77 @souptonuts @Fancy Jack thanks ppl dont see the small things that count you guys are worried about the big thing and that being "DRUNK" yes its a big thing... but no for me i was being the bigger person to stop the man not to drive drunk and said if he wanted to stay and have some stakes that i brought to munch on but ax in the back of my head... me smirking yes i was shows that i have hart and honor to still be alive and that im not scared and pain dont fear me at all and my health will all ways be 110% thanks FB77 like your comment but besied the fact.... may think its a lil scratch BUT your wrong was long as fu** shows you how doctors sucked at doing there job FOR GOT TO SHAVE THE HAIR. big time wound infection there bet you didnt pay any mind to that so take notes..... health concern..... nuff said all i know is that
@C-ROD5 @fb77 @souptonuts Your external wound will heal fine, my concern now is that there might have been some brain damage.
@Fancy Jack  @fb77  @souptonuts ya i know im goijng to the doctor for that i fell good just hope not as bad
Â
@fb77 Well, you need to make sure that everyone unfriends Christians assailant.
these guys better turn themselves in....if we find them there won't be any finding them ever again.
@Arcanobacter Hemolyticum And honest emotional response
Wow. Who writes this? In the story you state "Rodriguez received 10 stitches in the back of his head" It is clear that he received Staples NOT "Stitches." And how many times are you going to use the word "brother" in second to last sentence? This is how it works when the same person has been writing your stories for 40 years. The worst part is when this crime was refered to as a "Hatcheting Incident." Really? *Sigh*
Everybody gets drunk with complete strangers and everybody tries to take the keys away from drunk complete strrangers, and everybody that believes this is a complete idiot, he knows who split his head open and he knows why, his lapse of memory is probably in his own best interest, I would not be surprised to find out he is related to his assailant.
@Fancy Jack Come back when you learn how commas work, buddy.
@Calgacus You are not the first or the last Grammar Nazi, If you have to attack the structure and not the content, then you have already lost the arguement
@Calgacus I doubt you ever had an original idea, it is why you criticize the structure and not the content, the flaw in your arguement is that man progressed steadily in the absence of writing, verbal skill and hand signals being used to convey ideas, as well as visual observation, writing is a fairly new tool and is constantly evolving, I think, therefore I am, we modify our writing to embrace technological advances, if you lack the ability to embrace an idea because of sentence structure, It would suggest that you have other intellectual constraints as well, those that seek the comfort of conformity are condemned to follow, never lead.
@Fancy Jack  @Calgacus If you do not know how to write, then you do not know how to think. I am hardly the originator of this idea. And I never claimed to be.
@Fancy Jack Especially since he tried to stop the drunk from driving.
Looks like he has a few staples in the back of his head. If the guy WASN'T DRUNK I'm sure that blow could have been significantly worse. NO ONE deserves this for trying to do a good deed. I wonder how serious the police take this.  Â
@fb77 I have a distant relative named Hatchet Jack, this is clearly the work of an axe ameteur.
I really like how the "victim" is sitting there playing a video game and can barely look at the camera. a tiny cut like that is not going to be life threatning! this guy just wants attention! This story was not shown in a very professional manner.
@DKDH well you tell me if you can still walk the next day!!! with out it bothering you i got hart and honor that im alive to show anything is possible and pain dont fear me haha say all you want but my actions is were it countsÂ
Next time take a potato or something similar and stick it in their tailpipe without them seeing....engine will die pretty quickly and you wont have any confrontations
The headline (no pun intended) for this story is one of the dumbest I've seen yet on the KVAL site (and that's saying something). Sounds like a drunken party, too bad the guy got whacked for doing the right thing. I hope they find the guys who did it. But please, KVAL....stop trying to be "cute" or "hip" or funny in any way, esp. with a serious story. More junior high journalism. It can be painful to read.
