EUGENE, Ore. - The man shot dead by a resident during a reported burglary Thursday had been booked into the Lane County Jail and released a day earlier on heroin charges.

Shawn Connelly, 44, of Springfield died Thursday.

Police said Connelly was shot dead by a 27-year-old man who reported two intruders in a South Eugene home.

After a manhunt using a police dog, police booked Darrin George Dubouch, 39, of Coburg into the Lane County Jail on accusations of second degree robbery and first degree burglary.

Police have said the incident may have involved drugs and may have been a targeted incident.

Connelly was most recently in the Lane County Jail on Feb. 1, booked on charges of possession of heroin, delivery of heroin, reckless driving and alluding police by vehicle. He was released the same day.
