Man sentenced for fatal fight at Oakridge campground

EUGENE, Ore. -- EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — An Oakridge man was sentenced to over 6 years in prison on Friday for killing his friend during a drunken fight at their campsite.
Aaron Earl Curry, 33 of Oakridge, was camping with his former roommate, 46-year-old Alan Platt near the Hills Creek Reservoir in early May. The men were drinking and got into a fight. During the scuffle Curry hit Platt in the head with a piece of firewood, which proved to be a fatal blow.
The defendant, Aaron Earl Curry, said he was trying to end the fight, but the prosecution said he used more force than necessary to defend himself.
Curry was charged with manslaughter but agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge, criminally negligent homicide.
I feel this is a horrible situation, exspecialy for the Family. I understand totally but, I am angry with our courts & prosecuting attorneys and the systen in general. it does'nt matter wether your drunk or not its not a excuse lots of people drink but, they don't kill. I also am upset because these plea bargain deals they make to put another notch on there belt of conviction rates. its what there doing to our children in the process of there notch. kids and people in general! and what message this sends. they think wow get drunk kill someone and your be out in 6 yrs. or wow that guy had sex with a minor and only got 18 months.. its the sad message that! its ok! we are not gonna do time. as these people earn there notch's society gets iller. and more & more people are doing these horrible crimes.
oh because he is a drunken loser he gets a lesser sentence than if he were an upstanding person bull
@Iam1woody I am the victims sister. Trust me our family feels the same. We took the plea because we didn't want to draw out the trial. This has been hard for all of us, but hell on my mother. I still can't get over how broken out laws are, but yes you can murder someone whether they were both drunk or not. Aaron had time to run, to leave the fight, but he didn't. He chose to kill him instead. It kind of paints us into a corner because there was no one else to tell us exactly what happened. Our family accepted the plea yesterday, and then made it official in the court room. We were allowed to adress Aaron before he was sentence with the knowledge that it would make no difference on how much time would be served cause that had already been agreed upon. As said in my statement, eventually he will die and when he does, his soul will burn in hellfire for eternity. I do thank you for seeing that it is not fair, but because my brother was drunk too, we had few choices. This was the easiest on us.
@angarmer I agree with the broken judicial system, since I was a young man and voulentered at a detox center with my mom in High School I am no fan of booze,it makes smart men dumb good men bad and healthy men dead, but you already know how bad booze is,sorry for your pain and loss be well and do well is the best revenge
