Man shoots friend, self while taking gun apart
LEBANON, Ore. -- A man shot himself in the hand and and his friend in the arm on Friday night while the two men were on a trip to play in the snow at McDowell Creek, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies investigating the shooting said that Brandon Butler, 23, and Anthony Catullo, 31, were about 10 miles down a McDowell Creek logging road with two friends. The group told officials that they were in the area to play in the snow.
Butler and Catullo were talking about trading a set of tires for a .45 caliber, semi-automatic pistol.
At around 11:30 p.m. Friday, Butler tried to show Catullo how to disassemble the gun.
The gun fired while Butler was taking it apart. The bullet grazed his hand and hit Catullo's forearm, shattering the bone.
Members of the group drove Butler and Catullo to the Lebanon Community Hospital.
Officials said that the men had been drinking at the time the gun went off.
This is called the Darwin Effect.
At least it wasn't two children playing with a gun. uh... maybe it was.
Emer Fudd and Daffy Duck. No moa buwets?
how do you comment on stupid! make the gun owner take a gun safty class at the least!
I am sure that the gun trader was going to make sure the buyer was legal to own a gun.Â
The Ballad of Irving.
@Nostromo He came from the old Bar Mitvah spread with a ten-gallon yalmuke on his head.  He always followed his mother's wishes....even on the range he used two sets of dishes.  Irving..big fat irving...bit short fat irving.  The 142nd fastest gun....in the west. Â
@Nostromo I'd forgotten all about the Ballad of Irving that was popular when I was in high school in the mid 60's. As soon as I saw your mention of it it brought back memories.  Thanx.
YEP !!! thats where i go to field strip my weapons to a snow park ...what a couple of dinks =0(
Contender for the Darwin awards!!!!!
@Franklyspeaking It's only an "honorary." To get the full Darwin award, you have to die.
Sounds a little fishy.....possible poaching trip gone wrong??????
Even if you "know", 100%, that it is not loaded, you still ALWAYS check the chamber, ALWAYS. It should be so basic...
Â
More anti-second amendment propoganda.
Oh come on everyone......we all do dumb things all the time weather we want to admit it or not!  AND.... you all know it! Just because a gun was involved doesn't make an incident any worse than driving a car while yapping away on a cell phone or driving any vehicle while not paying full attention to the task of driving. The sad fact is, we are all just an instant away from our own tragedy.....and as I write this......someone in America, maybe someone you know, will expierience it first hand! And......no GUN will be involved. Just say'n!Â
@sniperone This is why I stay away from guns and try to keep driving to a minimum. And when I'm working with electrical stuff, I'm super, duper careful, etc...
@sniperone Except there was a gun involved. <facepalm>
Way to exercise that 2nd Amendment, Dumb-arse.
Check the chamber, always. Then check it again. ...And again.Â
As critical, ALCOHOL AND GUNS NEVER MIX
@MP SGT ---And I did see a film in high school, where Nam soldiers were smoking Tai-stick out of their rifles. We always wondered if they ever made it home.Â
@MP SGT I agree responsible gun ownership is key - safety is always - thank you
Let's break this gun down and not bother to check if there's one in the chamber... Stupid is as stupid does!
Maybe these two shouldn't own guns!
@Michael Michaels ---at least not any more .45 calibers. Could have been so much more messy for dumb and dumber.
