Man fires round into neighbor's home during fight with brother

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police arrested a man for firing a shot into the side of his neighbor's home Saturday morning, officials said.
At around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Springfield Police officers responded to a call about an armed dispute in a neighborhood near the Gateway Mall.
Arriving officers found that Joseph Lee Vandervort, 22, shot a round from his .22 caliber handgun while fighting with his brother at their shared home at 732 Oakdale.
Vandervort was intoxicated during the fight, police said.
The bullet hit their neighbor's home, leaving fragments lodged in the side of the house.
Officials said that no one was hurt by the shot.
Police arrested Vandervort on four counts of reckless endangering (1 for his brother, 3 for his neighbors), disorderly conduct and criminal mischief charges. He is lodged at the Springfield Jail.
Wow...another idiot!
Something like that happened to my house, too, here in Reedsport several years ago. I reported finding a bullet lodged in an interior wall...thank goodness it didn't penetrate. I reported it to the local police and took photos. An officer came out to investigate and found that the bullet's trajectory was from the neighbor's house behind mine. The bullet had passed through their exterior wall, both walls of their shed, the exterior wall of my home and was poking through the interior wall. I dug the bullet out of the wall and the officer later sent another officer to pick it up. NOTHING WAS EVER DONE....and they now had the bullet and all I had was photos. I couldn't even get a police report from them for my insurance company or a civil suit. The police claimed they had no record of the incident.
He is lodged at the Springfield Jail? What, is the Springfield Jail a Hotel?
Â
For you reporters, its booked into country jail....
@PostoneAs defined by Websters dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lodge), lodge could be considered the appropriate term. It is kind of like a hotel, Hotel California, (You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave! ") They do charge you for your stay. While there you get food and a bed (as long as you behave). Being "booked" is a term referring to the process that leads up to being lodged on a jail or prison.
@Postone He earned himself some misdemeanor charges....He's routed through Springfield Municipal Court, so he's lodged into Springfield's jail rather than the county jail.Â
Another gun in the hands of a drunk. Â Luckily no one was hurt this time. Sadly, none of the charges are enough of a crime to remove this idiot's gun rights. Â Things need to change.
@Baldr Odinson Wait.... If he was shooting at his brother, shouldn't the charge be attempted homicide?
@Baldr Odinson I see you know local gun laws like you know constitutional law...(rolls eyes)
@Baldr Odinson ---Naw! just rednecks killing rednecks. Lesser of them the better. They're just punks that graduated from the BB&pellet gun to the .22. Wait 'til they start to hit the messky moonshine and graduate to .38s .45s, 30 odd 6s and armor pearcing shot guns. Then the neighbors a block away will get really nervous. I would think that his condition of parole would take away his gun rights and his right to drink Alc. for a while. Hell, the kid doesn't look 21 to begin with. His brother must have furnished the booze to a minor. Yee Haw! It's just like the Dukes of Hazard county 2013. NOT!
Crazy, it happened to my house with my wife and kids home. Makes ya really think! What if it was a little higher, to the left, or what if my five or six year old were playing somewhere else
Well Mr. Spratt, people do take great exception to having their personal and business belongings ripped off by a stupid little punk, now don't they?
@Jesse Spratt I'm glad your family is okay.
he looks a little cocky and angry. i say leave him in jail for a week or two. ( waite we dont have a jail no more... sorry! )
@footeb1 Springfield does...Plus depending on the severity of the charges he could be seeing it every day for the next 364 days. They don't do catch and release out there. Too bad Eugene hasn't figured that little fact out and built there own city jail.
@Twistthewrist i agree! you are correct.
@Twistthewrist Hahaa...but they will build an unwanted transportation system...First stop...Lane County Jail! Bet they make a fortune from all the pick ups there!
