SALEM, Ore. – Sheriff’s deputies are looking for two men who they said shot another man during a robbery attempt at his Salem home Monday morning.

Someone called 9-1-1 to report a shooting in the back yard of a home in the 4000 block of Jade Street NE at around 8 a.m., according to Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Don Thomson.

The sheriff's office identified the victim as 50-year-old Christopher Riesch.

Riesch lives in a cottage on the property behind the main house, Thomson said. The armed suspects demanded money from Riesch and shot him during an argument. It’s unclear how many shots were fired.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic or white man who is 6’ tall, in his 20s, has a thin build and a beard. He was wearing a black, full-face mask stocking cap and a black jacket with a red Jordan logo on it.

The second suspect is described as a Hispanic or white man who is 5’10’’, has a “stocky” build and a beard. He also wore a black stocking cap mask, Thomson said.

The suspect drove away in a small, bright red pickup truck with a black canopy. The truck had been parked in a nearby apartment complex, witnesses told deputies.

Medics took Riesch to a Salem hospital with a “serious gunshot wound,” Thomson said in a news release. His condition is unclear.

It's unclear if anything was taken during the robbery attempt.

Detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit are working the case.
