Man shot in pawn shop burglary

ALBANY, Ore. -- A man with a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound was found after police responded to a burglary call at an Albany pawn store early Sunday morning, Albany Police Department Officials said.

Sergeant Ron Parker with the Albany Police Department said that officers responded to a burglary in progress call at Ace Buyers pawn shop in west Albany just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Responding officers said that the building had evidence of forced entry. 

Less than a minute after they arrived on scene, officers reported hearing a gunshot come from inside the shop. APD immediately set up a perimeter and called in the SWAT team, blocking a stretch of the nearby Santiam Highway.

At around 6 a.m. the SWAT team entered the pawn shop. Sergeant Parker said that they located the burglary suspect with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. When asked if the gunshot was part of a suicide attempt, officials said that detectives are still investigating the incident.

Emergency responders transported the suspect to a local area hospital with serious injuries. Detectives are still investigating the incident.
