Man shot in gun battle with police

EUGENE, Ore. - An armed man exchanged fire with a police officer Monday afternoon as he fled through a gated community of manufactured homes in Eugene.
The suspect was shot and police officers rendered aid immediately, police said. Medics responded, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital.
The incident started at 3:17 p.m. when officers were dispatched to a call regarding an armed, menacing subject.
The man fled west through Briarwood Mobile Home Park, 1400 Candlelight Drive.
The Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team has also responded to investigate the incident.
No word yet on the identity of the officer involved or the man who was shot. Neighbors reported seeing a man waving a gun about before police arrived.
The officer was put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the IDFIT report.
