Man shot with own gun in fight with police

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- A man who fought with a Cottage Grove police officer was shot in the hand with his own gun during the struggle, police said.
Authorities say that just after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, an officer stopped a man on a bicycle in the 1500 block of Hwy 99 North.
The man, identified as Ronald Dale Obannon Jr., 24, allegedly had a warrant from a previous domestic violence case.
The officer, who has not been identified, tried to take Obannon into custody, but authorities say he started to fight with the officer.
Police say he used a Taser to try to subdue Obannon, but say it wasn't effective so the officer had to tackle him.
That's when police say Obannon was able to pull a .22 caliber pistol from his pocket and pointed it at the officer.
During the struggle, the officer was able to push the gun away and it went off, striking Obannon in the hand, police said.
Other police officers arrived to help, but not before Obannon bit the officer in the hand hard enough to break the skin.
Both Obannon and the officer were taken to the hospital and treated and released.
Police say Obannon was then lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges of attempted murder, second degree assault and assaulting a police officer, among many others.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing into the incident.
It's a damn shame he missed his face, and got his own hand. That could have saved us taxpayers some loot. Kudos to the cop, as we all are glad he was there. I'm thankful there are those special people out there, brave enough to deal with scum like this, on a daily basis. Who knows what evils this loser had in his mind?
@XLRG ---to all of the losers out there---get a backback, fill it full of rocks, shoot thyself in the head and sink to a deep body of water. Feed the fish, and crawdads until you are never found. Hopefully, such pond scum will never reveal your passing AND not cost any taxpayers anything.
Surprized he even went to jail
KLASSY Â move, he bit him in the hand.Â
Â
And the KVAL staff again struggles for any story related to guns in attempt at cementing their anti american sentiment.Â
Â
And again, I renew my call to ban TEETH. Â The guy pulled a girl move and bit law enforcement.Â
@Jason Marks ---valuable logic points you are building there JM. I was anti-gun ownership, until I listened/read your points of view and so many others on this forum/thread. Please keep up the good work and comments. W/O the 1st Am, to cover us, we might risk losing the 2nd.
What a turd...flush it!
Most definite cop of the month. They will be reviewing this like a game tape on what went right.
Outstanding!!!! Way to conserve your own ammo police officer.
Another person who shouldn't have been armed. Â I'm glad the officer is okay.
 @Baldr Odinson Not a privilege, Baldr.Â
