Ford F-550: Built SWAT tough

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Medford police have a new SWAT truck that will stop a .50-caliber bullet.
Police Chief Tim George told the Mail Tribune the $260,000 vehicle was paid for with savings on equipment repairs, fuel and other services.
The truck is built on a Ford F-550 chassis, holds up to 10 officers, and has a revolving gun turret on the roof and gun portals in the sides.
City Councilor John Michaels joked that it could be useful in a zombie apocalypse.
George says police expect to take it out 20 times a year.
It has already been used once, in the arrest of a man wanted in a shooting at a local restaurant.

What a monumental waste of money for Medford. Whoever had the bright idea to buy this thing needs to lose their job NOW.
I have four words that any government agency hates to hear; Fraud, waste and abuse. In a city of 75,180 residents how could any low level agency justify such an outlandish purchase. 20 times a year?! Really? That's only proves a lack of need for such an expensive piece of equipment. Better start using it for speed traps before a state auditor comes to town to review your books.

Cheese and rice, this is Oregon not Mogadishu. Whoever purchased this needs to be tarred and feathered then fired for gross mismanagement of public funds.
it was paid for by saving money, shouldnt they try to save money always,oh thats right we need up armoured vehicles so we can be more like Libya,if you live in medford this is what the police think they need when they dont respond to a call because its not a high enough priority
